The Mobile Impaired Driving Unit (MIDU) is a self-contained 36-foot motor home that has been retrofitted as a mobile DUI processing center and incident command post.
Inside the MIDU is a full 'DUI investigation center.' Drug Recognition Experts and phlebotomists are on board and can take legal blood draws. The MIDU is equipped with breath testing instruments, temporary holding cells, computer workstations, an incident command computer terminal, a dispatcher console with wireless access to WSP dispatch centers, and a microwave downlink tower for real-time broadcasts from WSP aircraft. It is described as a full-service police station on wheels. When requested, the MIDU travels across the state in support of law enforcement efforts during DUI emphasis patrols or to emergency incidents such as wildland fires or other natural disasters. It has been in operation since 2006.
