Introduction to Virtual Reality Development for Libraries (NO headsets required)

Introduction to Virtual Reality for Libraries will explore the use of VR technology within libraries and cultural institutions. Participants in this session will learn how to develop or get started with virtual reality development using the Godot game engine and Blender, two free and open source software. Topics that will be covered in this class will include training simulators within the library and academia, digital/virtual museums for cultural institutions, planning and reorganization of library facilities, and gamification within the library. Participants will need to bring a laptop and download Godot and Blender before attending. However, participants are NOT required to own a headset in this program to participate fully in this program. Knowledge of a programming language such as JavaScript or Python is beneficial but not required.
Upon completion, participant will be able to learn the basics of game development and development in general within the context of libraries and cultural institutions such as museums
Upon completion, participant will be able to identify virtual reality solutions at their place of employment, such as training, facility reorganization, and cultural improvement.
Create a virtual reality world using basic primitive shapes that can be used within their own browser and without any headsets.
Promote virtual reality to their employers prior to investment into expensive software and hardware
