Leveraging the Self-Publishing Process for Library Programming and Patron Services
Sunday, January 29, 2023
10:30 AM – 11:45 AM
Location: Morial Convention Center, Room 383-385
Level of Participation: High
If patrons are asking you questions about how to get a book published or you're looking to create low-cost high-quality content from expert authors, this session will reveal how the process of self-publishing can help your community produce books as well as help the library curate interesting programming. Join Bestselling Author and Book Launchers founder Julie Broad for this interactive session to: - Explore the process of self-publishing a book to understand what's involved, - Brainstorm how your library can help an author in the process, - Identify resources that can support local authors in their journey, - Uncover opportunities to create compelling (often low-cost) programs, events and training for your community with indie authors. Sample resources and programs will be provided, along with templates for working together in groups to develop ideas and new approaches to connect your local authors with your community.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, the participant will be able to explain the publishing process at a high level and identify the difference between self-publishing, hybrid, and traditional publishing.
Upon completion, the participant will be able to list resources that will support a patron in their desire to become an author.
Upon completion, the participant will be able to identify opportunities to partner with self-published authors to create unique programming for the community.
Upon completion, the participant will be able to design a low or no cost program that will appeal to authors as well as to patrons.
