Patricia A. Wand, University Librarian Emerita (1989-2006), American University; Adjunct Professor and Consultant. Former Dean of Library and Learning Resources, Zayed University, United Arab Emirates (2006-2010). She held library positions at University of Oregon, Columbia University Libraries, College of Staten Island (CUNY) and Wittenberg University (Ohio).
Ms. Wand teaches, researches and writes on issues related to higher education, libraries, knowledge management and international development. She has worked with librarians in Latin America and the Middle East. Her research focuses on the role of information centers in developing economies.
Ms. Wand has served on numerous boards including those for Antioch University New England Board, National Peace Corps Association (NPCA), and the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL). She serves the American Library Association (ALA) as an endowment trustee, and formerly as chair of the budget committee, councilor to its governing body and on numerous committees. She co-founded NPCA affiliate groups West Cascade Peace Corps Association and Friends of Colombia.
After serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Colombia (1963-65) Ms. Wand taught in secondary schools in Washington DC and the Midwest and was on the Peace Corps training staff in 1969.
She earned the BA from Seattle University, an M.A.T. from Antioch Graduate School and the A.M.in Library Science from University of Michigan. Ms. Wand received the Distinguished Service Award from District of Columbia Library Association; Distinguished Alumna Award from the University of Michigan, School of Information; and a Fulbright Senior Lecture Award to Ecuador.
