Nichelle M. Hayes MPA, MLS is the Founding Director of the Center for Black Literature & Culture (CBLC), Indianapolis Public Library. Hayes graduated from Indiana University – School of Library & Information Science (SLIS) with her MLS. She also holds an MPA from Valdosta State University.
Hayes currently serves as the President of the Black Caucus of the American Library Association (BCALA), 2022 - 2024. BCALA, established in 1970, was formed to serve as an advocate for the development, promotion, and improvement of library services and resources to the nation’s African American community; and to provide leadership for the recruitment and professional development of African American librarians and library staff members. www.BCALA.org
She serves on a number of community boards throughout the state of Indiana. NAACP, Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH). She is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. A Public Service Organization (Lifetime Member).
