Correctional Outreach Services Assistant

Michael Riley is the Correctional Outreach Services Assistant for the Queens Public Library in New York. Over the last 5 years, Michael has worn different hats within his department to help better serve justice-impacted populations. He coordinated the Video Visitation program, which helped families stay connected to their incarcerated loved ones via video chat at Riker Island Correctional Facility. He also assists with the "See You on the Outside" program at Queensboro Correctional Facility, which equips soon-to-be released individuals with a professional resume and uniquely tailored community resources.
Currently, Michael serves as a main point of contact for the library's ID Assist program. Between in-person appointments and weekly visits to the Queens Parole office, He is usually the first person patrons meet and receive assistance from. Creating a safe space and establsihing a relationship where patrons feel heard and important are of paramount importance to Michael.
