GAR Foundation
Bronlynn Thurman is a program officer at GAR Foundation. In her role, she works to advance the Foundation’s strategic priorities through the assessment and review of grant inquiries and applications with a focus on equitable community development and arts in education. Prior to her current role at GAR, Bronlynn worked with the Knight Foundation and separately, the Akron-Summit County Public Library.
Bronlynn serves on several area boards and committees, including the Akron Black Artist Guild; Akron Civic Commons core team and Communications Committee; City of Akron Planning Commission; and Elevate Greater Akron’s working group.
Bronlynn earned her B.S. in Advertising and M.S. in Information Architecture and Knowledge Management - UXD from Kent State University. She was selected as a 2019 30 For the Future award recipient and named the 2021 Community Member of the Year by the National Association of Social Workers Ohio Chapter Region II. Most recently, she was in Big Picture Learning’s inaugural Ashé Leaders Fellowship program. In her free time, Bronlynn co-runs Black Women Explore, a local outdoor recreation group, and the Coffee and Cocktails Book Club.
