Dr. Chelsea Faase has spent 14 years in education, the majority of that time being in K-12 public schools. Chelsea obtained her Ph.D. in Urban Education from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Her work includes engaging and motivating adolescents through literacy tasks, children’s and adolescent literature, the importance of inclusive text and culturally relevant pedagogy, and expanding the definition of literacy to meet the needs of all learners. Her most recent work is looking at the need for inclusive historical fiction and nonfiction trade books to broaden the landscape of culturally responsive teaching. Dr. Faase is currently an instructor of literacy teacher education at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
