Looking to shake up your library program or find new ways to engage young learners? The author of Learning Centers for School Libraries and Project-Based Learning for Elementary Grades, two AASL Standards-Based Learning Series books, will discuss how to implement these fun and flexible concepts in a variety of settings. If you’re curious about introducing centers in your library, or just looking for some new ideas, this session is for you. Participants will learn how to create and adapt learning centers for both school and public libraries. You’ll get to try one or two sample activities. Participants will also explore the benefits of PBL projects and learn how to facilitate these independently in the school library or in collaboration with other educators. Public librarians can adapt these project ideas for use in child/youth services programming and makerspace activities. You’ll leave with ideas you can bring back and use right away in your library. This session is suitable for PK-12 school librarians, children/youth services public librarians, library school educators, and library students.
Learning Objectives:
explain the benefits of Learning Centers and PBL projects and how to use them in school libraries and public libraries.
apply the ideas presented to modify and create Learning Centers and facilitate PBL projects in their own libraries.
describe how Learning Centers and PBL projects address the National School Library Standards.
