Addressing Toxic Positivity and Wellness in Work Spaces
Sunday, January 29, 2023
3:30 PM – 4:00 PM
Location: Morial Convention Center, Ideas Xchange Area 1 (LLX Marketplace, Hall J)
Have you considered how toxic positivity and wellness might manifest in the workplace? Join librarians from Texas Tech University and Binghamton University for an engaging conversation where attendees can discuss what toxic positivity and wellness are, and how it might occur in our work spaces. Attendees may address issues related to accessibility and inclusion, as well as strategies for mitigating toxicity. These can include adding aspects of deep listening, non-judgement, and radical acceptance to the programs, as well as recognizing the dignity and worth of all who participate. Questions we will consider include the following: What is toxic wellness and toxic positivity? What do these mean to you? What are some ways that these issues have shown up in outreach programs? How does this show up in patron interactions? What kinds of issues regarding accessibility and safety have you come across? How can we make these work spaces more inviting? How can we address issues of accessibility and inclusion?
Learning Objectives:
Define concepts of toxic wellness and toxic positivity
Identify how toxic wellness and toxic positivity can manifest in existing work spaces
