Why Is There a Grownup in the Young Adult Section?: YA for the Over-18s

We often hear about crossover titles: adult books with teen appeal, the sort of books that make the Alex Awards list. But what about teen books that adult readers would, can, and do read and enjoy? Over half the readers of books published for young adults are actually adults--and not all are teachers looking for a good classroom read, or parents keeping up with their child's favorites. Hear about some YA titles from the past ten years that could be the perfect recommendation for grownups looking for a great read. The presenter, who has years of Readers' Advisory experience with both teens and adults, will include at least two dozen titles, some award winners, others hidden gems, including fiction from all genres and nonfiction.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participant will be able to identify three elements that go into making a young adult book equally enjoyable for an adult reader.
Upon completion, participant will be able to recommend young adult titles to adults with introductions that do not include a "written for or teenagers but . . . " disclaimer.
Upon completion, participant will be able to list at least two dozen young adult titles with high appeal for adult readers.
Upon completion, participant will be able to conduct a book club for adults that focuses on young adult titles.
