Shadow Puppetry in Libraries: We Tell Tales in the Dark

Learn how to take your storytime to the next level with Las Vegas-Clark County Library District’s Sunrise Youth Services team! We will outline how imagination, a Cricut, Audacity, and inter-department collaboration transformed traditional storytimes at Sunrise Library into puppet shows that focus on early literacy in a fun and engaging way. We will show you how to take advantage of the technology in your library and create a shadow puppetry program that can be presented in person or virtually. This session includes the full process, trial and error experiences, and overall potential for shadow puppet storytelling.
Learning Objectives:
Attendees will engage with strategies that a cross-functional team used to retain programming for their community during the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown reopening.
Attendees will gain concrete steps to take to develop their own shadow puppetry program with their own team and connect it to their unique community.
Attendees will discover the potential opportunities in shadow puppet related programming and adapt it to their communities.
