CANCELLED: Supporting Ourselves and Each Another: Mental Health Care Within the Profession

This discussion will highlight ways in which librarians and library staff can support one another and themselves through the presenters past research into mental health within LIS. Additionally, this discussion will dig into how administrators and supervisors can improve the ways in which they engage with neurodiverse librarians and librarian workers. The purpose of this discussion is to promote open exchange of ideas, ways forward, and thoughtful insights into the world of neurodiversity within the library world. With a research based background in this area, this discussion will also speak to the mental health concerns in a broader way. The facilitator will develop questions and prompts drawing from on her past research on MLIS students mental health help, current research of informations science PhD students mental health issues, and work with mental health organizations within the overall library community.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participant will be able to identify 3 to 5 actionable ways in which to support their colleagues during times of mental health distress.
