Dana Nakamura, OTR/L, BT-C, CLT graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy and Psychology, minor in Asian Studies, from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA. She has nearly 38 years of experience in burn rehabilitation and has worked at three American Burn Association verified Burn Centers: University of Washington Burn Center at Harborview in Seattle, WA (1984-2006); Wake Forest Baptist Burn Center in Winston Salem, NC (2007-2020); and currently at the Burn Center at University Medical Center New Orleans. Dana is an active member of the American Burn Association and International Society for Burn Injuries. She has served on ABA Committees: Membership Advisory Committee, Education Committee, charter Aftercare and Reintegration Committee, charter Mentorship Committee, and currently serves as Co-Chair for the Burn Rehabilitation Committee of the Southern Medical Association, planning the annual pre-conference workshop. Dana received the Barbara Knothe Therapist Achievement award in 2007, Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center Employee of the Month in September 2015 and achieved Burn Therapist Certification (BT-C) in 2020. Dana is actively involved with burn survivors, serving as a Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors SOAR (Survivors Offering Assistance in Recovery) Coordinator and Burn Survivor Peer Trainer. Dana has presented locally, nationally, and internationally on burn care and rehabilitation, and has publications in peer-reviewed journals and textbooks. She has served on the editorial boards for both the Journal of Burn Care and Research and Burns. Burn care and research Interests include edema management, non-pharmacological pain management and burn survivor aftercare/reintegration.
