Profiled in the 2010 international book, The New Face of Jazz, Lisa is an 8-time DownBeat Magazine award winning jazz vocalist, composer, and arranger, selected in 2000 as the IAJE Sisters in Jazz Combo vocalist, was a winner of many vocal awards and scholarships, and a 2013 Jacksonville Jazz Festival "Hall of Fame" Inductee. She has been the featured vocalist with the Larry Elgart Orchestra, UNF JE I, the St. Johns River City Band, the Chris Riddle Orchestra, and on many TV and radio commercials. Heard on numerous recording projects, Lisa is the only vocalist to be featured on four CD recordings with the UNF Jazz Ensemble 1 big band, and on two releases, "Swinging Up the River" and "25th Anniversary Silver Threads," with the historical St. Johns River City Big Band. Co-leading several jazz small groups to big bands with music partner, trumpeter JB Scott, Lisa debuted her solo CD, "By Request," at the 1997 Montreux Jazz Festival, going on to co-release 5 other successful CD recordings. She has appeared with notables including Ed Calle, Arturo Sandoval, Dave Brubeck, Slide Hampton, Claudio Roditi, Jane Monheit, Mulgrew Miller, Bunky Green, Danny Gottlieb, Lynne Arriale, Bill Allred, Bill Prince, Allan Vache, Maceo Parker, Carmen Bradford.
Lisa has performed internationally and throughout the greater U.S. for jazz societies, jazz clubs, private and corporate events, cruise ships, as a guest artist with collegiate and pro ensembles, and on numerous festivals, including the Montreux Jazz Festival, Monterey Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, Vienna State Opera House & Festival Vien, Pescara Jazz Festival, Kennedy Center/Mary Lou Williams Women In Jazz Festival, Jacksonville Jazz Festival, Savannah Jazz Festival, Clearwater Jazz Holiday, Elkhart Jazz Festival, Sacramento Jazz Jubilee, Mammoth Lakes Jazz Festival, Suncoast Dixie Classic, Sun Valley Jazz Jamboree, and the prestigious Midwest Band & Orchestra Clinic. In addition to her busy professional performance schedule, she teaches privately, and is a studio vocalist.
In education, she is a much sought after commercial vocal coach and jazz mentor, guest artist/clinician, and adjudicator. She taught formally at LaVilla Middle SOTA, Douglas Anderson High SOTA, the First Coast Community Music School, and in interim at the University of North Florida. Lisa has taught as an instructor for various jazz camps, conducted her own one-day annual jazz vocal workshop, sang as the featured vocalist with the FMEA Directors Reading Band from 2000 to 2017, and co-established the first multi-generational jazz camp for high school to adult vocalists and instrumentalists in Jacksonville, FL. in 2019, now in its 4th successful year. Lisa has consistently presented vocal clinics for FMEA/FVA & FBA (Florida Music Educators Assoc/Florida Vocal Assoc. & Florida Band Assoc.) for Jazz Educators Network (JEN) Conferences, and for numerous high school and collegiate jazz programs. In 2012, she was invited to mentor the first student jazz vocalist to ever sing with the FMEA High School All-State Jazz Band, creating the first criteria for a "High School Jazz Vocal Soloist Mentoring Clinic," administrating state-wide submissions for 5 years, mentoring students to perform for a clinic with a professional rhythm section at the FMEA Conference and with the All-State Jazz Band. In 1997, Lisa created what became the Jacksonville Jazz Festival’s official jam session, running it for 22 years, hosting thousands of aspiring young musicians with seasoned regional and festival pros.
