Guatemala
Luis Pedro is an electric bass player, composer, songwriter and musical arranger based in Guatemala. Since 2002 he has been part of the local music scene, sharing the stage with experienced local musicians, allowing him to develop his own sound by learning and playing an array of styles including Latin music, jazz, blues, rock, pop, funk, Latin American folk, bossa nova and flamenco.
At present Luis Pedro is member of three bands as a bass player, co-writer and co-producer, with whom he has performed locally and internationally: TIJUANA LOVE, with a Latin, electro pop sound and funky bass lines; IMOX JAZZ, a jazz fusion project featuring Latin and Guatemalan folk sounds, and JAZZIMBA, a fusion of jazz with folk Guatemalan marimba music.
Luis Pedro is a music educator, graduated in Musical Performance with a specialty in electric bass. He wrote the original music score for 2 Guatemalan films, and co-produced additional soundtrack music for the motion picture “Our Mothers”, winner of the “Caméra d'Or” award in Cannes Film Festival in 2019. He is also the founder and promoter of “Los martes son de jazz” (Jazz Tuesdays), a monthly jam session since 2013 where young and experienced musicians reunite.
He studied jazz and flamenco guitar, flamenco percussion, double bass and drums in Guatemala and Barcelona. Among his mentors there have been renowned and active musicians in the Guatemalan and international music scene, including professors from Berklee College of Music.
