Dean of Jazz Arts
Manhattan School of Music
New York, NY
Born in Vancouver and raised in Nanaimo, Ingrid has been hailed as one of her generation's most gifted improvising trumpeters. After graduating from Berklee College of Music in 1989, she moved to Europe to teach at the Bruckner Conservatory returning to the east coast three years later to embark on a full-fledged music career. Ingrid currently serves as Dean and Director of Jazz Arts at Manhattan School of Music. She leads her own groups and is an integral member of the Blue-Note signed supergroup Artemis.
The self-directed MSM Masekela Scholars hail from various villages and cities in South Africa. The scholars bring with them, rich musical culture, brilliant improvisatory voices, and influences and insights into the current jazz scene that are as fresh as they are profoundly grooving.
They meld their music with the vibrancy of New York City, the results of their MSM education, and their own deeply personal approaches to playing Black American music.
