Dr. Nathan Jorgensen is Director of Jazz Studies at the University of New Hampshire where he is responsible for teaching applied saxophone lessons, directing two jazz ensembles, serving as administrator and coordinator of the Clark Terry Jazz Festival, and is the producer of the UNH Traditional Jazz Series. He also regularly serves as a guest clinician and director throughout the United States.
Nathan is an accomplished jazz/commercial and classical saxophonist and feels at home in nearly every musical situation. He has shared the stage with notable performers such as: Patti Austin, Terell Stafford, Bobby Watson, the Temptations, Dick Oatts, Bobby Shew, Alexa Tarantino, Gary Foster, Bob Sheppard and Marshall Gilkes, among many others. His classical performing has allowed him opportunities to perform with the Kansas City Symphony, the South Dakota Symphony, the Dakota Wind Ensemble, and he has been featured as a concert soloist with the Dakota Wind Ensemble, South Dakota State University Symphonic Band, and the University of New Hampshire Wind Symphony.
Nathan was recently named musical director of the Seacoast Big Band, a regional organization that features concerts with prominent guest artists. He is a member of the Capitol Jazz Orchestra, based in Concord, NH, and the Portland Jazz Orchestra, based in Portland, ME. Nathan also freelances throughout New England and can regularly be heard playing in a variety of settings.
