Matthew Karnstedt is a proud alumnus of Libertyville High School in Libertyville, IL, and is pleased to be back teaching at his alma mater. Currently in his 9th year at Libertyville, he has taught courses in concert band, orchestra, guitar, as well AP Music Theory and Music Production and Sound Engineering. In addition, Matt oversees the LHS Jazz program, consisting of two big bands and multiple student combos, and assists with the Marching Wildcats. Matt graduated Cum Laude from Butler University in Indianapolis with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education with a Concentration in Jazz Studies and holds a Masters in Music Education from the University of Illinois. Additionally, he also holds a Masters in School Leadership from Concordia University. He is currently a member of the National Association for Music Education, the Illinois Music Educators Association, the Association for Popular Music Education, and the Jazz Education Network. In addition to teaching, he performs regularly as a baritone saxophonist in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs. When not teaching or gigging, Matt enjoys spending time in running and being out in nature with his wife, Jackie, and their 7 year old rescue pup, Evee.
