Chaplain (Major) Christian Groenendal received his Bachelors of Art in Political Science from DePaul University, his Masters of Divinity from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and is currently in his last year of his Masters of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Texas A&M and is pursing licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist. He served for 2 years as a Pastor at New Life Community Church in Chicago, and has been an Army Chaplain for the past 14 years. He has served as a chaplain in conventional, airborne and special operations units at Fort Campbell, KY, Fort Eusitis, VA, Fort Meade, MD, Fort Bragg, NC and Fort Hood, TX. Chris has gone through much of the same training as his soldiers including the Air Assault school, the Airborne school, and the Military Free Fall school, as well being a 2019 graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College. He is a combat veteran of the war in Afghanistan and earned a Combat Action Badge and Bronze Star Medal for his actions in combat. His current duties in garrison at Fort Hood, Texas are focused on providing counseling to active duty soldiers and their families.
Chaplain Groenendal has been married to his wife Christina for 18 years and they both hail from Chicago, IL. They have 2 biological children and 3 adopted children from foster care, and 3 grandchildren. Chris loves soccer and is an ardent fan of Liverpool Football Club, and he enjoy golf, reading, camping, hiking, boating and skydiving.
