Rosita Cortizo, PsyD, LMFT, MA, ISSTD Past President, originally from Panama City, Panama in South America, currently works as a high risk, multicultural, bilingual prenatal and perinatal clinical psychologist for Women Health Services and Behavioral Health working with female adults and children. Dr. Cortizo has worked in Public Health in Southern California with pregnant women at high risk with multiple diagnosis, traumatic stress, dissociative processes and relational crisis for more than 30 years.
Education is an important value and that fueled her determination to complete and promote higher education. She brought EMDR training to her community clinic and is their onsite consultant.
Dr Cortizo has published four prenatal articles for different peer reviewed Journals in the past 4 years. She holds licenses as both clinical psychologist (2001) and marriage family therapist (1998); and earned a Master of Arts in Psychology with specialty in Chemical Dependency (1993) in San Diego, California. She is EMDRIA Certified, an Approved EMDR Consultant, trained in Hypnosis, Sensory Motor Psychotherapy, Equine Assisted Therapy Certified, and the 2021 ISSTD President.
Dr. Cortizo was raised by Spaniard and Ecuadorian immigrant parents in Panama City, lived many years in New Orleans, and is currently residing in Fallbrook California, the avocado capital of US.
Dr. Cortizo is an advocate of universal trauma-informed prenatal psychotherapy, prenatal bonding work, post birthing support, The Calming Womb Family Therapy Model psychoeducation, and works empowering pregnant women and families with devotion.
