Ed Groenendal is in private practice as co-owner of Advocacy Counseling Services, He and his partner, Dr. Willa Wertheimer practice here in Crystal Lake. Ed is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor.
Ed has been providing psychotherapy services since 1997, specializing in trauma related counseling. He offers services for individuals, families, couples, and alternate life styles.
Ed is a graduate of Illinois School of Professional Psychology, a member of American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, a member of International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (ISSTD), and has served as president and vice president of ISSTD groups. He is also on the faculty of the Professional Training Program at ISSTD.
Ed Groenendal, along with Dr. Willa Wertheimer is contracted to the Department of Veteran Affairs. He provides therapy services to veterans that have served in Veitnam and present day conflicts. The men and women served in the Army, Navy, Marines, and Air Force. The men and women who have served and that Ed counsels, faced incredible danger and have had to make life or death decisions when they were quite young; eighteen to thirty five years of age.
Ed also is a veteran of United States Air Force from 1973 to 1979. He served primarily state side, where his job was flying a desk (i.e. administrative work). He left the service with the rank of Staff Sargent.
Ed enjoys road trips with his wife and business partner, watching soccer, all kinds of water activities. He also played and coached soccer for many years. He enjoys cooking and plays competitive cross word puzzles with Willa, which he always loses.
