Dawn Hinton, M. Ed., LPCC-S graduated from Xavier University in Cincinnati, with a degree in School Counseling and a degree in Clinical Counseling. She worked as a high school counselor for 20 years and owns a private practice in Florence, Kentucky, serving clients with trauma related disorders, dissociative disorders, and anxiety. Trainings include EMDR, hypnosis, and Reality Therapy. She published an article, “Choosing Success in the Classroom” in The International Journal of Choice Theory and Reality Therapy focusing on teacher’s relationships with students. Prior to counseling, she taught high school math/science. Throughout her career, she has conducted professional development sessions for teachers and counselors. Dawn teaches Complex Trauma/Dissociation courses with the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (primarily Level 2 Accelerated) and serves as an adjunct instructor at Xavier University including a 15 hour Trauma and Dissociation workshop.
Dawn has held leadership positions with the Northern Kentucky Counseling Association - multiple years as secretary and has completed the three-year presidential cycle and the Kentucky Counseling Association serving 4 years in the presidential cycle. Personally, she is a mom of 2 beautiful daughters and loves to travel with her husband and children as often as possible. Ms. Hinton has won several awards throughout her career including: Outstanding School Counselor, Counselor of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Award. Currently Dawn sees 12-15 clients a week, consults with other clinicians, and works as the Executive Director for the Kentucky Counseling Association. In her position with KCA, she advocates for the counseling profession, organizes trainings, and manages the details of the annual fall conference.
