8:30 AM – 5:00 PM US Eastern Time
Location: Olmsted 5
Learning Level: Beginning/Introductory
This session is available for 6.00 APA credits.
The focus of Phase One trauma care typically involves efforts intended to establish a psychotherapeutic relationship, stabilise a dysregulated nervous system, manage trauma symptoms, and prepare for the tasks of Phase Two. Drawing on concepts from the Seigel’s Window of Tolerance, Ogden's Modulation Model, Porges’ Polyvagal Theory and Feldman Barrett’s Theory of Constructed Emotion you will explore the category of somatic resources to support stabilisation and symptom management through live demonstration, experiential exercises, and video review. We will cover the relevant definitions, some client presentations and detail the physical indicators of various regulated and dysregulated states. You will receive step by step instructions for developing the somatic category of resources. You can participate in this workshop academically or you can experience the development of somatic resources from the inside out. Attendees are welcome to wear comfortable clothing and bring a towel or yoga/floor mat.
