Dr. Lárus S. Guðmundsson is an Associate Professor of Pharmacoepidemiology at the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Iceland. He graduated as a pharmacist from the University of Iceland in 1993 and has since worked in various pharmacy-related fields including R&D, registration and production of pharmaceuticals. Dr. Gudmundsson finished a MSc in Clinical Epidemiology from Erasmus University in 2000 and has been involved in Clinical Epidemiology and Pharmacoepidemiology research ever since. Dr. Gudmundsson finished a PhD in biomedical sciences in 2010. Dr. Gudmundsson worked at the Directorate of Health in Iceland from 2013 to 2017 monitoring GP drug prescribing and nationwide drug use using the Icelandic Prescription Database (IMR). Since 2017 Dr. Gudmundsson has served on the Executive Committee for Nordic PharmacoEpidemiological Network (NorPEN). Lately, the research has mainly been in two areas epidemiology of migraine and long-term use of hypnotics, sedatives and opioids using data from several databases and cohorts.
