Morten Andersen, MD, PhD, is Professor and Head of the Pharmacovigilance Research Center at the Department of Drug Design and Pharmacology, University of Copenhagen, Denmark. He has a background as a clinical pharmacologist and more than 30 years of experience within pharmacovigilance, pharmacoepidemiology and drug utilisation research. He is a member of the WHO International Working Group for Drug Statistics Methodology and has been board member of the International Society for Pharmacoepidemiology (ISPE) and several other scientific societies. The Pharmacovigilance Research Center participates in the Nordic Pharmacoepidemiologic Network (NorPEN) and the European Network of Centers in Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacovigilance (ENCePP).
His current research focus is method development in pharmacovigilance, with a focus on signal detection and active safety surveillance using big healthcare data, multi-country database network studies and the application of data science methods in pharmacoepidemiology. Morten Andersen is leading a multi-country project on Covid-19, Nordic COllaborative HEalth REgister Network for Covid-19 Epidemiology (Nordic COHERENCE), working jointly with University of Oslo, Uppsala University and other partners. He has participated in EU funded projects and has been principal investigator of several large post-authorisation studies.
Before joining University of Copenhagen in December 2016, he held positions as Visiting Professor at the Centre for Pharmacoepidemiology, Karolinska Institutet, Senior Researcher at the Research Unit of General Practice, University of Southern Denmark, and as Assistant and Associate Professor at the research unit of Clinical Pharmacology at the same university.
