Robert M. Augustine, PhD, CCC/SLP holds the position of Senior Vice President of the Council of Graduate Schools in Washington, D.C., where he leads consultations designed to align universities with best practices for administering graduate education guided by evidence-based research, benchmarking, and policy documents. Dr. Augustine serves on multiple advisory boards for colleges of health sciences where he provides guidance on best practices in advancing the quality and success of graduate programs in health-related fields. He is Dean Emeritus of the Graduate School, Research, and International Students and Scholars at Eastern Illinois University where he earned regional and national awards for his work in graduate program review, graduate program diversity, and financial literacy for graduate education. Prior to serving as Dean, Dr. Augustine earned tenure as Professor of Communication Disorders and Sciences, served as Department Chair and was appointed a Visiting International Scholar at Herzen State Pedagogical University of Russia where he conducted research on language acquisition in international populations. Dr. Augustine serves as the 2023 President of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. He is a Past President of the Board of Directors of the Council of Graduate Schools and previously served on ASHA’s Board of Directors as Vice President for Finance. Dr. Augustine also served on the Board of Directors of the Graduate Record Examination. Dr. Augustine holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in speech-language pathology from Illinois State University and was inducted into the University’s College of Arts & Sciences Hall of Fame. He holds a PhD in communication sciences and disorders from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale where he earned the Departmental Distinguished Alumni Award and was selected as 2022 Keynote Speaker for the Guy A. Renzaglia Lecture in the College of Health and Human Sciences.
