106 - Genicular Artery Embolization for Treatment of Osteoarthritis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
Purpose: To purpose of this article is to perform systematic review and meta-analysis of outcomes of genicular artery embolization (GAE) for the treatment of knee pain due to chronic osteoarthritis (OA) and to study postoperative complications.
Material and Methods: A comprehensive literature search of PubMed, Ovid MEDLINE, and Ovid Embase was performed for studies published from 2000 to October 2022 to identify to identify studies related to knee OA treated with GAE
Results: Resorbable microspheres, polyvinyl alcohol, imipenem/cilastatin, and embozene were the different types of treatment agents. The primary objectives included changes in the requirement for pain medication as well as the mean difference (MD) between pre- and postembolization pain levels measured using the visual analog scale (VAS) or the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC). The models used for data analysis were random- and fixed-effects models.
Conclusions: For knee pain brought on by OA, the existing evidence does not indicate any appreciable differences in results between IA injection, RF ablation, and GAE.
