Greg Yardley MSRS, RT (R), CBDT
Greg Yardley works as a researcher and bone density technologist in the NASA Bone Mineral Laboratory. Greg also works as a radiographer in the NASA Johnson Space Center medical clinic. This work is performed on the NASA Human Health and Performance Contract by KBR in Houston Texas.
His job requirements are performing, analyzing, and recording Pre- and Post- long duration space flight DXA scans on current flight assigned astronauts. As well as performing triennial DXA scans on Retired and Active non-flight assigned NASA and NASA international partner Astronauts. Greg also supports musculoskeletal studies supported by NASA and other institions requiring astronaut involvemnt. Greg does this by performing and/or collecting human muscule and skeletal data using other radiology equipment such as QCT, HRPQCT, MRI, and Ultrasound and sending the data to the respective principle investigators. Greg also performs all the diagnostic medical and occupational health x-ray exams in the NASA/JSC Medical Clinic.
Greg began his healthcare career as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) (2001-2011). In 2007 he furthered his medical education to receive his Radiology Technology Certification RT. (R). With his RT(R) certification he has worked in a Trauma 1 Center hospital as well as other healthcare facilities. Prior to his current job, Greg worked as a DXA technologist (At which time he received his CBDT 2012) in a specialty clinic and ran the day to day operations of the Osteoporosis Center and performed over 3000 DXA scans a year.
Greg received a Master of Science Degree in Radiological Sciences in 2015 in addition to his two Bachelor's Degrees. Greg is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom where he performed many combat duties, one of which was as a combat life saver.
