The ISCD 2023 Annual Meeting will provide the most current, clinically relevant, and evidence-based information on skeletal health assessment as well as the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis and fracture risk. This educational program is designed to improve learner competence by providing targeted opportunities for presenting the latest information in the research, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and advances in bone densitometry and osteoporosis. Learners will have the opportunity to take the knowledge gained from this educational opportunity and properly and consistently apply it into their professional practices.
ISCD focuses on gaps in practice that may be addressed through the education of healthcare professionals who facilitate improvement in patient care. Methods used to identify these practice gaps include needs expressed by clinician and technologist learners, needs identified by volunteer leaders and experts, needs from medical literature, peer reviewed journal articles, professional associations or government agencies and surveys of target audiences and past attendees. From this information, clear learning objectives are developed.
Learning Objectives
1. Determine which patients should be screened with a DXA exam and how the results should be interpreted and monitored.
2. Recognize the other tools available along with DXA (TBS, VFA) that can help determine a person’s fracture risk.
3. Describe how to best identify rare bone disorders.
4. Identify appropriate therapeutic agents utilized to treat and manage patients with osteoporosis or other skeletal health disorders.
5. Describe the application of artificial intelligence tools for the prediction of osteoporosis and fracture prevention.
6. Explain how to best utilize FRAX scores for fracture risk along with future modifications.
7. Select appropriate drug therapy for prevention and treatment of osteoporosis considering therapy efficacy, duration, and fracture history.
8. Compare and contrast the appropriate use of vitamins and minerals in skeletal health.
