Georgios A. Sotiriou is an Associate Professor in Biomaterials Science in the Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology at Karolinska Institutet leading the Bionanomaterial Technology Laboratory. The focus of his research program at KI lies on the development of functional particles and particle-enabled devices made by aerosol technology targeting biomedical applications. The three main research pillars of his lab regard (i) the production of responsive nanomaterials for diagnostics in bioimaging/biosensing, (ii) the fabrication of medical devices capitalizing on aerosol nanoparticle deposition on surfaces combining particle production and particle film fabrication in a single-step, and (iii) the utilization of flame-made nanoparticles as drug nanocarriers. He is an European Research Council Starting Grant (ERC StG) Awardee in 2017, an ERC Proof-of-Concept Grant Awardee in 2021, he was appointed as a Future Research Leader from the Swedish Strategic Foundation (SSF) in 2020 and has received the KI Consolidator Grant in 2021.
