CRS Young Scientists are a diverse group of people who are typically students and early career scientists in academia or industry under the age of 40 years, or scientists with less than five years’ experience in the science, technology, and innovation of delivery of bioactives.

Monday, July 24, 2023
12:00 PM – 1:30 PM: Professional Development Workshop
Scientific Communication is one of the fundamental skills each young scientists must develop. In this workshop we will hear from leaders in the controlled release society that excel in oral communication. The workshop will detail:
1.) effective slide design
2.) guidelines on general presentation outline
3) effective redundancy
7:00 PM - 8:00 PM: Editor in Guidance on Paper Writing
Manuscript publication is the bread and butter of young scientists as we share breakthroughs, exciting findings, and collaborations of knowledge. What is the best way to navigate the difficult journey from submission preparation to publication? Come find out! We are excited to invite all trainees to ask highly-sought questions, seek advice from, and learn the wisdom of successful publications from experienced editorial team members from highly regarded journals such as the Journal of Controlled Release and others.
8:00 PM - 9:00 PM: Meet and Greet with a Luminary
As young scientists, we are inspired by and follow in the footsteps of giants our field. Join us as we are honored to host and hear about the career path of, encountered challenges, and breakthrough sucesses in drug delivery from a luminary & the 2023 recipient of the Young Innovator Award, Dr. Amirali Popat!
9:00 PM – 11:30 PM: FG/YSC Networking Event
Join us for a fun-filled evening in our exciting YSC and Focus Group Networking event. This event will provide the young scientist with a wonderful opportunity to network with like-minded peers and invited luminaries and researchers from across the globe. The event will have ice-breaking fun activities and gives you a chance to interact with participants from around the world and foster lifetime connections, collaborations and memories.

Enjoy speed dating with luminaries during lunchtime! This event organised by the Young Scientist Committee will give early career researchers the unique opportunity to do face-to-face interaction with recognised names from the CRS world. During the workshop, you will have a chance to ask accomplished academics the questions you have always wanted to ask.

3:00 PM – 4:00 PM: Careers in Industry Round Table
Come hear from industry experts at mega pharmaceuticals like Merck about their firsthand experiences transitioning to and navigating industry! This session is perfect for young scientists considering academia/industry-adjacent & industry careers after graduation and get exclusive insight as well as answer their burning questions. What is the interview process like and pharma life afterwards? How does life at the bench differ compare to academia? Come find out at the Careers in Industry Round Table.

2:00 PM – 3:00 PM: Scientific Workshop
Join us for five talks from young scientists around the world! Local chapters were asked to nominate one young scientist who is attending the conference to submit their abstract for the chance to give an oral presentation. These abstracts were evaluated and scored, the top five young scientists are invited to give a short oral presentation that will be judged live during this session. Awards will be given to the top two presentations.
