This session will examine Tribal Community Risk Reduction of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe which does not operate a fire department but its Tribal Emergency Management broadened its services to CRR. This presentation will show the partnerships with FEMA, BIA, IHS, Red Cross and animal welfare agencies to reduce risk to property, people and animals. Especially the fact that its a one responder effort that is very typical in Indian Country and will stress the cultural consideration to make a Tribal Community Risk Reduction successful
Learning Objectives:
The participant will gain an understanding of federal Indian policy that resulted in genocide, colonization, assimilation and historical trauma to the 580 federally recognized Tribes that affected CRR efforts
The participant will learn cultural perspectives if they would try to implement CRR on nearby Tribal lands, Native Urban area, or themselves are members and work for Tribal nation
