Chess and checkers are played on the same board. Past that, there are few similarities. Most of our careers our spent playing checkers on our "workplace boards." We are singularly mission focused and have limited options to freely move about to accomplish the goal. But, once we enter the world of community risk reduction, we have to start thinking much more strategically. For example, we have to start thinking many steps ahead, not just one move at a time. How will one action start a potential cascade of events that makes a program successful, or an utter failure. To be successful in CRR building relationships and working across multiple organizations is critical. We can no longer just focus on the task of moving from one side of the board to the other to get our way. We have to start thinking in all directions.
This interactive process will explore strategic thinking methods, how to build collaborative relationships, think more than one step ahead, and win the long game to impact change and reduce risk in our communities.
