CRRL is thrilled to announce this year’s keynote speaker, Jason Schechterle. In 2001, Jason’s patrol car was struck at over 100 mph and instantly burst into flames. After suffering severe burns to over 40% of his body, his fight to live ‘exemplifies that the power of the human spirit can never be underestimated or extinguished.’ Jason’s story is one of ‘life, rebirth, and transformation.’ Learn more about Jason's story here .
Equity Embedded: Disability Inclusive Community Risk Reduction This presentation will summarize disability inclusive fire safety approaches and community risk reduction strategies. Attendees will learn about, and be encouraged to contribute their own experiences, partnering with people with disabilities on CRR techniques such as education, enforcement, economic incentives, engineering and emergency response. Conversations will intentionally consider how race, class, gender, disability and age can intersect and influence the overall effectiveness of fire safety/CRR programming. The importance of disability inclusive data collection/analysis will also be openly discussed as we strive to make more informed life safety decisions and involve the whole community in how success is sustained/measured.
