Fire Inspector Town of Windsor Fire Marshal's Office WINDSOR, Connecticut, United States
The town of Windsor has begun to expand its use of CRR outside of the fire service and is beginning to work more strategically across municipal departments. Using the information gathered in the CRA departments such as the Town Managers Office, Social Services, Senior Services, Planning and Zoning, Public Health, and Community and Economic Development have begun to tailor program initiatives and grant proposals to local risks and opportunities. In this presentation, I will describe how this process started, where we are now in the process, and where we as an organization plan to go. I will highlight what has worked well and what has not and give attendees some ideas on how to get other departments on board with their CRR efforts and how to avoid some common pitfalls. Getting buy-in from town leadership has been critical in this process, so I will also discuss how to "sell" CRR as a tool that aligns with the municipality's vision and mission statements. The objectives for the presentation include: Explain how CRR can inform decision-making across municipal government Identify partners who share a passion for building safer communities Explain how a comprehensive CRA can lead to data-driven solutions to meet the challenge of equitable and efficient deployment of resources Identify the problems that may arise when building a diverse CRR coalition
My goal for the presentation is that attendees leave with a better understanding of how CRR can be used to inform decision-making across town government and are able to better articulate the benefits of strategic partnerships with other departments and organizations.
