Medical Student
Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University
CENTEREACH, New York, United States
Ashna Raiker is a second-year medical student at the Renaissance School of Medicine with a Bachelors of Science. She earned her BS at Stony Brook University, as part of the Scholars for Medicine (BS/MD) and Women in Science and Engineering Honors programs. She is passionate about the anatomy and pathology of vascular disease and hopes to pursue a career in the field. She aims to complement it with a career in research and is currently working on projects studying positional iliac vein stenosis, as well as reasons for stent failure. Drawing from her life experiences living in a developing country, Ashna is strongly driven to contribute toward community health in underserved areas. At Stony Brook Medicine's student-run free health clinic (SB HOME), she co-founded a project on exploring barriers to telehealth and volunteers as clinic manager. She also finds great fulfillment in mentorship and teaching. Apart from engaging in various teaching positions, she was chair of the clinic's Undergraduate Clinical Education Program. Finally, she believes diversity and equity are synonymous with compassionate patient care and as President of her medical school's Women in Surgery group, chapter of AWS, she worked on events that addressed gender disparities. Outside of academia, Ashna is a dancer. She is the President of the Autism in Dance initiative and runs dance and movement biweekly sessions for adults with autism and other developmental disabilities.
