Course Description:The AUA Guidelines for Localized Renal Cancer have been revised (2021-2022) and are now available at https://www.auanet.org/guidelines/guidelines/renal-mass-and-localized-renal-cancer-evaluation-management-and-follow-up. This revision was extensive and integrates the 2 previous guidelines for localized kidney cancer. An evidence-based approach was prioritized with focus on providing guidance for urologists in routine clinical practice. The revisions include:
• Indications for genetic counseling are now expanded
• Adjuvant therapy for patients at high risk for recurrence is addressed for first time
• Indications for renal mass biopsy more clearly defined
• Indications for radical versus partial nephrectomy now more granular and clinically useful
• Updated risk-based surveillance protocols for patients after intervention are integrated
• Indications for active surveillance for patients with renal lesions now more granular
• Follow-up for patients on active surveillance now more clearly defined
Our course will be interactive and primarily case based with imaging/videos that will lead into discussion of the most important AUA Guidelines recommendations. A primary focus will be surgical management to optimize oncologic and functional outcomes, and minimize the risk of complications. Each panelist will present 2-3 cases, with 1-2 addressing the below topic areas and other cases addressing other interesting management challenges in this field.
