Professor Prokar Dasgupta is an Academic Urologist based in London, UK. He was appointed as Consultant Urologist to Guy's Hospital, London in 2002 where he pioneered robotic urological surgery within the UK. He is credited with the "Dasgupta technique" of injecting Botulinum toxin in overactive bladders. He became the first Professor of Robotic Surgery and Urological Innovation at King's College London in 2009. He was the 10th Editor-in-Chief of the BJUI.
Professor of Surgery at King’s Health Partners, Dasgupta is a clinician-scientist, pioneering robotic surgeon and King James IV Professor of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He is Chair of The Centre for Robotics at The London Clinic, the first private institution in the UK to introduce this technology. He became the first Professor of Robotic Surgery and Urological Innovation at King's College London and subsequently the Chairman of the King’s-Vattikuti Institute of Robotic Surgery.
As a leading educationist he published the first international trial of surgical simulation for patient safety. In 2010 and 2018 he was named one of the top ten prostate cancer surgeons in the UK.
His main research interest is in the immunology of prostate cancer. He was awarded the Fellowship of King’s College (FKC), St Peter’s medal, the highest award British Association of Urological Surgeons, the Padma Shri by the President of India, The Wickham Medal by ERUS, the Innovators in Urology Award by the EAU and the OBE by King Charles III for his services to surgery and science.
He has published >1100 articles with H index of 89.
He is a member of American Association of GU Surgeons and the Academic Association of European Urologists.
He is a Trustee to a number of charities including the Malcolm Coptcoat Trust, Prostate Cancer Research, UK and The Prostate Cancer Foundation in Kolkata, India.
