Tenured Professor and Chair
University of Florida, Jacksonville, FL
K.C. Balaji, MD, is a Tenured Professor and Chair of Urology at the University of Florida in Jacksonville, Florida, USA, and the Program Director of the Advanced Urology Fellowship Program. Using innovative curriculum design, Dr. Balaji has trained urologists with a focus on both scientific rigor and holistic care. As a physician-scientist and urological oncologist, Dr. Balaji has a longstanding research focus in prostate cancer, making pioneering contributions to robotic urological surgery, including publishing the first studies on widely used procedures such as robotic nephrectomy and totally intracorporeal ileal conduit urinary diversion. His laboratory was the first to identify the downregulation of Protein Kinase D1 (PrKD1) in prostate cancer, demonstrating the role of PrKD1-centered signaling in cancer progression. The lab has also explored molecular targeting of key proteins in prostate cancer and developed novel transgenic mouse models. Additionally, Dr. Balaji is actively involved in multiple clinical trials.
