Dr. Williams began his work on kidney stones during research on shock wave lithotripsy with Dr. James Lingeman, and he was fortunate to be able to study with Michel Daudon in Paris, learning from him how to analyze mineral composition in stones. Since then Dr. Williams, working with Dr. Lingeman, has leveraged the power of micro CT to provide insights into the mechanisms by which stones are initially retained within the kidney during their early growth. His goal in research is to identify the mechanisms of early stone formation in the various kinds of stone formers, with the expectation that understanding those mechanisms will lead to new therapies.
