Jeffrey Wells Nix is a full professor in the department of urology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and is the current section chief of urologic oncology. He served as the director of robotic surgery for the last 10 years. He is also the inaugural holder of the Joe Chamblis Endowed Professorship for innovation in prostate cancer research. Dr. Nix completed his residency training at the University of North Carolina and completed a fellowship in urologic oncology at the National Cancer Institute. His research has focused on the utlization of multiparametric MRI in prostate cancer and MRI/US fusion prostate biopsies. He has also focused much of his career on the advancement of minimaly invasive treatment techniques for cancer patients in urology such as focal therapies for prostate cancer. He was an early adoptor of the single port platform and is one of the highest volume SP surgeons in the country.
