Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai
Dr. Blaivas is Professor of Urology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Adjunct Professor of Urology at SUNY Downstate Medical School. He is a world expert in reconstructive surgery, voiding dysfunction, incontinence, neurogenic bladder and urodynamics, and pioneered many of the current diagnostic and surgical procedures for stress incontinence, voiding dysfunction, urinary fistulas, urethral diverticulum, overactive bladder and neurogenic bladder. In addition, he has been listed every year in Top Doctors in America and Top Doctors in New York since 1992.
He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the Victor Politano Award from the American Urologic Association (AUA), Ferdinand C. Valentine Award from the New York Academy of Medicine, Lifetime Achievement Award from the Society for Urodynamics and Female Urology (SUFU), F. Brantley Scott M.D. Award from the American Foundation for Urologic Disease, J. Marion Sims Award from the American Uro-Gynecologic Society, and Paul Zimskind Award from the Urodynamic Society.
Dr. Blaivas founded the peer-reviewed journal Neurourology & Urodynamics and was Editor-in-Chief from 1982-2006. He is also the founder and director of the Institute for Bladder and Prostate Research, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to urogynecological research. He is co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer of Symptelligence Medical Informatics, LLC that developed a software platform and app dedicated to assisting physicians and patients with diagnosis and treatment of lower urinary tract disorders.
He is former President of the Urodynamics Society and an editorial board member of numerous peer-reviewed journals. He is the primary author of over 400 peer-reviewed scientific articles, book chapters and reviews, and has edited and written twelve textbooks. He is a member of numerous professional societies, including the American Association of Genitourinary Surgeons, Society of Pelvic Surgeons, AUA, American College of Surgeons, SUFU, American Urogynecologic Society, and International Continence Society.
