Justin Matulay, MD is a genitourinary surgical oncologist and Clinical Assistant Professor in Urology at the Wake Forest School of Medicine (Charlotte Campus) and Levine Cancer Institute of Atrium Health. He obtained his medical degree from the Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons and completed his general urologic training at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center in New York City. During his time at Columbia, Dr. Matulay developed a particular research interest in bladder cancer and completed a year of basic science research in the lab of Dr. Michael Shen, contributing to the development of bladder cancer organoids. He then continued his training in urologic oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, completing a 2-year fellowship under the mentorship of Dr. Ashish Kamat, where he successfully competed for an Urology Cares Foundation Research Scholar Award investigating the molecular underpinnings of cisplatin-resistance in muscle invasive bladder cancer. He joined the urology faculty at Atrium Health in 2020 as part of the Levine Cancer Institute where his clinical practice encompasses all urologic malignancies. His research activities remain focused on bladder cancer and he is currently leading urology clinical trials for the Levine Cancer Institute.
