Dr. Mutahar Ahmed is the Director of the Center for Bladder Cancer at Hackensack University Medical Center and Professor of Urology at the Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine. He also serves as Director of the Robotic Oncology Fellowship at New Jersey Urology/HUMC. His clinical and academic expertise encompasses urologic oncology, robotic surgery, and complex reconstructive urology.
A pioneer in minimally invasive techniques, Dr. Ahmed has performed over 5,000 robotic procedures, including more than 1,500 utilizing the da Vinci SP (single-port) platform, placing him among the highest-volume pure single-port robotic surgeons globally. He was also among the first in the Northeast to perform robotic intracorporeal neobladder reconstruction, contributing to advancements in surgical management of bladder cancer.
Dr. Ahmed is widely published in peer-reviewed journals and is a frequent invited speaker at national and international scientific meetings. His work has established him as a recognized thought leader in robotic urologic oncology and reconstructive surgery. He has been consistently named a “Top Doctor” in both regional and national publications.
Since 2013, Dr. Ahmed has traveled to Bangladesh biannually, where he has played a key role in developing minimally invasive urologic surgery programs. Through surgical training and mentorship, he has significantly enhanced local expertise and access to advanced urologic care. In recognition of his contributions, he was appointed Honorary Professor at Bangladesh Medical University in Dhaka.
He also established a named lecture series in collaboration with the AUA Care Foundation to advance education and innovation in minimally invasive urologic surgery. Additionally, Dr. Ahmed has been instrumental in advancing Hackensack University Medical Center’s Department of Urology to national prominence, with recognition for excellence in clinical care and innovation.
