Urologist
Federal University of Bahia - Brazil
Nowadays and since 2018 I am the Chief of Endourology at Federal University of Bahia, Salvador – Bahia – Brazil. I have experience in the global management of urinary lithiasis in adult and pediatric patients, especially in percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL), with more than 950 procedures performed (2025), most of them in supine position. As a minimally invasive urologist, I also have expertise in the areas of laparoscopic and robotic surgeries for the treatment of both benign and malignant urological conditions.
In the last 15 years, I have dedicated myself to the improvement and spread of advanced endourological procedures, focused in percutaneous nephrolithotomy and its miniaturized approach (Miniperc) and combined surgeries (ECIRS). I am actively collaborating with professionals from Brazil and abroad to develop technical modifications to reduce ionizing radiation, especially with the standardization of ultrasound-guided percutaneous access, totally without fluoroscopy. I am very active in the academic field and have published papers and gave lectures and hands-on courses developed in these fields all around the world. For the last two years (2024 and beyond) I have been involved in the disruptive project of robotic flexible ureteroscopy.
I am a current member of Endourology Department (2016-2017;2020-2025) and the Head of Endourology of Brazilian Society of Urology (SBU) for the biennial 2024-2025. I was a member of Teaching and Training Committee of SBU (2016-2021). I am since 2022 also a member of the Continuous Medical Education Office at American Urological Confederation (CAU).
I was a fellow in Minimally Invasive Surgery in Urology at Federal University of Sao Paulo - Brazil (2009-2011) and one of the first certified robotic surgeons in northeast Brazil.
I am a reviewer of Journal of Urology Open Plus (Official Journal of the AUA), International Brazilian Journal of Urology (Official Journal of SBU and CAU), World Journal of Surgery.
