Margot S. Damaser, PhD is currently Professor of Biomedical Engineering in the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University and has joint appointments in the Biomedical Engineering and Urology Departments of Cleveland Clinic. She also is a Senior Research Career Scientist and Deputy Director of the Advanced Platform Technology Center at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center, Cleveland, OH. She received her PhD in Bioengineering from the joint program of the University of California San Francisco and Berkeley and completed 2 postdoctoral fellowships at Lund University in Sweden and at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. She has nearly 30 years’ experience investigating causes of and treatments for benign urological conditions and pelvic floor disorders, including urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence, and pelvic organ prolapse. She has had research funding consistently throughout that time from NIH, VA, private foundations, and corporations. She has 10 issued patents, 3 patents pending and over 200 peer-reviewed publications. She has served on peer review panels for NIH, VA and private foundations. She served on the Advisory Council for NIDDK at NIH. In 2020 Dr. Damaser was awarded the Urology Care Foundation Distinguished Mentor Award. Dr. Damaser is considered an internationally recognized expert in preclinical investigations in pelvic floor disorders, as well as development of novel therapies and novel methods of assessing/diagnosing dysfunction. She has pioneered development of animal models for pelvic floor disorders as well as novel regenerative medicine based therapeutics and novel wireless catheter-free devices for obtaining real world at home information on bladder and bowel function. Most recently Dr. Damaser served as chair of the Research Education Conferences & Communication Committee (RECCC) of the AUA Office of Research.
