Dr. Kielb is a professor of urology and medical education in the Department of Urology at Feinberg School of Medicine. She is the Division Chief of Reconstruction, Neuroirology, and Pelvic Medicine. She is a recognized expert in voiding dysfunction and incontinence, having performed sacral neuromodulation and botulinum toxin injections for urinary leakage procedures since 2004. Dr. Kielb was awarded research funding to investigate the effects of sacral neuromodulation on urinary and bowel symptoms and pain, and has published numerous peer-reviewed articles in this area. She also performs minimally invasive procedures for stress incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse, including robotic surgery as well as native-tissue and mesh slings.
Dr. Kielb is the urologic director of the multi-disciplinary adult spina bifida clinic at the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab (formerly the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago) and has extensive experience patienrs with neurogenic bladder. She is the medical director of the Transittional Adult Congenital Genitourinary Clinic at Northwestern Medicine. She is a founding member of the American Urological Association Working Group on Congenitalism and has published extensively on the needs and outcomes of this patient population. She manages adults with many other congenital genitourinary conditions, including cloacal exstrophy, sacral agenesis, urogenital sinus conditions, vaginal agenesis/atresia, and disorders of sexual differentiation.
Dr. Kielb performs complex reconstructive procedures, including bladder augmentation, mitrofanoff/monti procedures (catheterizable channels), ureteral reconstruction for ureteral strictures or injury including robotic ureteral reimplant, boari flap, psoas hitch, and ileal ureter construction for extensive ureteral strictures from radiation therapy. She also treats genitourinary fistulas, including vesicovaginal, ureterovaginal,, and enterovesical. Dr. Kielb regularly travels to Africa and is mission leader on women’s health mission trips to repair genitourinary fistulas in Rwanda and sits on the meidcal director board of the International Organization for Women and Development, a charity dedicated to treating genitourinary fistulas in Africa.
