Dr. Kate H. Kraft is Professor in the Department of Urology at the University of Michigan and the Mark C. McQuiggan, M.D. and Carolyn A. McQuiggan Research Professor. Her clinical practice is in pediatric urology. She received her undergraduate degree from Harvard University and medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons. She completed her urology residency at Emory University School of Medicine and fellowship in pediatric urology at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She leads the endourology and robotic urologic surgery program at C. S. Mott Children’s Hospital as Director of Minimally Invasive Pediatric Urologic Surgery. Her primary research interests include pediatric kidney stone disease, pediatric uroradiology, cryptorchidism, and surgical education. She has published numerous peer reviewed journal articles in these areas and has earned the Clinical Research Prize Award from the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Urology for her work in undescended testis histology.
Dr. Kraft is the Residency Program Director at the University of Michigan, currently ranked #2 among urology residency programs on Doximity. She is also co-PI for the American Urological Association/Urology Care Foundation Physician Scientist Residency Training Award, for which University of Michigan is the inaugural recipient. She serves on numerous national committees, including the ACS Women in Surgery Committee, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education Review Committee for Urology, the American Board of Urology Examination Committee, the SAU Board of Directors, and the ACS Board of Governors. Dr. Kraft is the subspecialty editor of the Medical Education section for the Journal of Pediatric Urology. She is a graduate of the AUA Leadership Program. Dr. Kraft was recently recognized for her commitment to education as the 2021 recipient of the AUA Residents and Fellows Committee Teaching Award and the 2022 recipient of the Michigan Medicine GME Award for Program Director Excellence.
