Dr. Brittany Szymaniak is a genetic counselor in the Urology Department at Northwestern Medicine and she specializes in GU and GI related hereditary cancer syndromes.
Dr. Szymaniak graduated from the Northwestern University's Graduate Program in Genetic Counseling in 2018 and received her PhD in Genetics from University of Rochester in 2016.
Dr. Szymaniak is the lead genetic counselor for Northwestern's Early Detection in Genetics (EDGe) BRCA+ Men’s Clinic. The goal of this program is to provide coordinated screening for unaffected men with Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer Syndrome (HBOC).
Dr. Szymaniak has also helped spearhead Northwestern's approval as a VHL (von-Hippel Lindau) Clinical Care Center. She serves as the point of contact for patients entering into the VHL program, whose goal is to provide expert, coordinated care.
In addition to her appointment in Urology, Dr. Szymaniak has a faculty appointment with Northwestern University's Graduate Program in Genetic Counseling, serving as a lecturer and thesis advisor.
